Angkor Wat, Phnom Penh, Killing Fields...

We managed to leave Malaysia with only a couple of sunglasses and watches extra in our luggage. Not to bad considering that Kuala Lumpur is a shopping paradise with very low prices on some things like shoes, clothes, watches, sunglasses, etc. I suspect that the Breitling watch that I bought for 15 Euros is not the real thing. After two days it has cracks in the sapphire glass, it is taking in water and it has stopped.

By the way happy new year! We celebrated the new year in Kuala Lumpur with a nice dinner and a couple of drinks together with some Austrians in the park behind the twin towers. We had warm weather, nice fireworks and most important each other for the best company. Apart from new year Kuala Lumpur was sightseeing, eating and window shopping. It is a test for self control not buying anything and not hitting any of the guys hazzeling you when trying to sell you something.

We left Kuala Lumpur on the second of january, flying to Siem Reap. Siem Reap is the city by Angkor Wat. We left the hotel 4 in the morning. Getting a taxi from the airport in Siem Reap we ended up staying in the hotel where the wife of the taxidriver worked. Later her brother offered himself to be our Tuk Tuk driver. He said we were his first customers since five days. Maybe not everything he told us was true, but he was a good driver and a nice guy. The first day we went to a floating village. The second day we spent visiting the Angkor Wat and other temples in the surroundings. It was a huge area with a lot of fantastic temples and it was overwhelming. We ended the day with the sunset at Angkor Wat.

This morning we took the boat from Siem Reap to Phnom Penh. The boat trip took six hours. We took the first hotel we found. Not the best so therefore we will stay out all the time until we go to bed. It is difficult not to get irritated on everyone that wants to drive you somewhere and help you with almost everything. They need the money, but sometimes we also need our five minutes of peace and silence.

Now we go out to find something to eat. Tomorrow we will visit some of the depressing reminders of the Khmer Rouge. Among them is the Killing Fields.

Rasmus and Ane Marte

Takk for kort fra Kuala Lumpur. Stor stas. Godt nytt år til dere og :) OG takk for tanken om at jeg må jobbe lite - slår nok ikke helt til. Men jeg hadde KORT dag i dag da, bare 10,5 time. Rekord i 2008 tror jeg nesten :) Kos dere ute i verden, mens vi holder hjulene i gang her hjemme :P
